What Is A Contract Pilot and Contract Flight Attendant?
Have you had a reduction in flight staff over the last two years? If so, you’re not alone. The aviation industry has been one of the industries most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if you think you’re properly staffed for a flight, that could change in a matter of seconds if someone tests positive. Wouldn’t it be great if you had backup contract flight attendants, and contract pilots to make sure flights always took off on time?
Now, it’s possible. Welcome to the world of contract flying. CrewBlast makes it especially easy to ensure you’re properly always staffed. Here’s what you need to know.
What Is a Contract Pilot?
A contract pilot is an aviation professional who operates aircraft, charter planes, or helicopters on a per-job basis. Contract pilots work directly with corporate or individual clients to fly planes between locations. They can transport either passengers or cargo in single or multiple trips.
The work that contract pilots do is based on the individual contract they arrange with their clients. They are personally responsible for maintaining their credentials and insurance, so they can work without delay. This role is often appealing to pilots who love their job but don’t want to be tied to an airline or the military. Contract pilots retain their flexibility with great benefits.
What Are Contract Flight Attendants?
Contract flight attendants are similar to contract pilots. They work as independent contractors and perform all the same duties that they would on commercial airlines but for individual or corporate aircraft. Like contract pilots, they may take on more responsibility for their training, but they have greater flexibility when it comes to other elements of employment. While they can still find long-term clients to work with, they are never tied to a single employer.
While contract flying positions primarily apply to contract pilots and flight attendants, remember that other crew members are necessary to get off the ground. If you’ve worked as crew loading baggage, working as aircraft control, maintaining or inspecting aircraft, etc., then you could be needed on a contract basis.
